Project: Spatial Design within Urban Combat

This level design project is focused on using urban spatial design to help influence how the player will navigate from space to space & thier decision making within these spaces. The gameplay design uses intense gun fights within these tight spaces to make the player push forward whilst navigating the space looking for thier next point of cover.

This project was inspired by games such as Ready or Not (2023) for its close quarters and intense claustrophobic firefights & Films such as Heat (1995) for its focus on how the use architecture and urban spaces for cover during combat encounters.

Spatial Design was the main focus of this project as I wanted to improve my understanding of how to design spaces which the player can flow and navigate through seamlessly.

Additionally, i also wanted to try using the game design aspect to impact the players pacing by using combat encounters, architectural design, and environmental storytelling. This would allow my level to strike that good balance for both length and fun factor.

nDreams Award for Level Design

At the Abertay Digital Graduate Show 2024 I was able to present my Level Design to both the public and many other industry members. During the award ceremony my project was given the award by nDreams for best Level Design. This event was amazing as i was able to get lots of feedback and testing so i could further improve aspects of my level and future design projects.
